Mount Charleston rises to nearly 12,000 feet in the Spring Mountains, offering pine forests, cooler temperatures and hiking trails close to the city.

Highlights

  • Mary Jane Falls trail
  • Cathedral Rock trail
  • Lee Canyon ski area in winter
  • Mountain lodge dining

About this area

Within an hour of the Strip you can hike red-rock canyons, stand on top of Hoover Dam or kayak on Lake Mead. November is one of the best months for the desert.

Fitting it into race week

Track sessions run in the evening, so daytime is free for sightseeing. Allow extra travel time near the Strip on track nights because of road closures.

Tips

  • Snow may arrive by late November — check road conditions.
  • Bring layers; it's much cooler than the Strip.
